Our approach

Established in 2022, the Lab’s mission is to explore ideas about how law and process can make everyday government work better for the public good. We explore the capacity of new ideas to reshape the public sector, and we also conduct deep analysis of current law and process problems as a pathway to finding new ways of thinking.

How we prioritise projects

We work on a diverse range of projects, but we are particularly focused on research that:

  • is concerned with the routine, ‘at scale’, and impactful operation law and process in the public sector;

  • is linked to complex and pressing problems facing government;

  • holds the potential to reshape or build new fundamental understanding of law and process in government;

  • enhances understanding through rigorous and innovative research methods at the intersection of law and social science;

  • is informed by the experiences of affected communities and those responsible for running public sector systems;

  • has the potential for application in a socially important way; and

  • explores issues that are underexplored relative to their potential.
